Blogmas Day 3: Inspired by Beauty Gurus

Hello, friends! I hope you're having a nice evening. The sun just set a few minutes ago, (which I'm still not used to; it's only five o'clock, it should still be light outside) which was actually beautiful to watch from the window of the library. From my vantage point I can see all of campus and the mountains that envelope us, which is as pretty as it sounds. I've been here for a few hours finishing up that Philosophy essay I've been talking about, and I'm pretty sure I'm done? I say that with a question mark because I finished writing it, but there's a very good chance I just plugged ahead and didn't say anything of real worth in favor of reaching my page number requirement. It's due tomorrow, but I think I'm going to set it aside for a few hours and do a proofread/tie up any gaping holes later tonight. For now, though I have plenty of other assignments to attend to, I'm going to take some much-deserved "me time": I'm gonna go to the gym, eat something fattening and indulgent for dinner, then catch up on some Vlogmas videos. Oh yes guys, that's right: there's such a thing as Vlogmas, (as in YouTube video blogging every day until Christmas) and I love it. If I'm being totally honest, Vlogmas is what inspired me to do Blogmas, and particularly a few of my favorite video bloggers.

I will admit, guys, I have a guilty pleasure: beauty vloggers, aka women who post videos about beauty and fashion on YouTube. I don't have a TV, and to be honest I don't need one, solely because I'm so entertained by the videos these girls post; time I would spend watching TV is spent watching them get ready for the day or show off what they bought at Target. And to top it off, most of them have separate channels solely devoted to their day-to-day lives. I don't know why, but I almost love these videos more than their expertly edited beauty videos; there's something so indulgent and fun about running errands with someone and having them talk to you directly. Okay...through a Youtube screen. So almost directly. And because I'm not selfish, I thought I'd share with you some of my faves, who are helping to keep me sane during finals. That's the secret to my success, guys: beauty gurus and lots of coffee.

1) Meghanrosette/Meghan Rienks
Meghan is hands down my favorite YouTuber. She seems so approachable and down-to-earth and she's also a bronzed goddess from California. She doesn't take herself too seriously and posts consistently, which I love.

2) Marissalace
Marissa is one of Meghan's best friends who just so happens to also make beauty videos and vlogs, so they'll often make cameos in one another's videos. Marissa is so spunky and hilarious, so her videos come with a bit of sass which I always love. Plus she went to real-life beauty school, so girl knows what she's talking about. You can tell by how she applies her everyday makeup and does her hair perfectly. Oh and her dog Hailey is the cutest thing on four legs.

3) FleurdeForce
Hoping across the pond, Fleur is an English YouTuber who is the definition of class. Aside from being absolutely gorgeous and so proper, her videos are always polished and prove herself to be a true professional. Because, if you didn't know, this is her job; a lot of beauty gurus receive enough income to support themselves just from YouTube. And when I say "just", that's not to say it's not a demanding job--I certainly can't imagine all the work that goes into it--but it's crazy how media changes so dramatically and makes new jobs for people every day. ANYWAY, back to Fleur: her and her husband's lifestyle is definitely much more high-brow than anything I can afford, so her videos are more of a "let me live vicariously through this accomplished woman" and less "this girl is so relatable I feel like we could be friends." I love them though, because in a weird way they're almost aspirational.

Okay guys, so that's all I'll leave you with for now. I know you're busy people, so I don't want to send you down the rabbit hole of beauty gurus, never to return. If you're anything like me, you should enjoy taking a study break with these. Or if these aren't your jam, you probably think I'm a little too obsessed with women I don't know. Whatever, man, I'm just doin' me. As is now tradition, your quote of the day is below!

"It seems to me that trying to live without friends is like milking a bear to get cream for your morning coffee. It is a whole lot of trouble, and then not worth much after you get it" -Zora Neale Hurston
(that one's a shoutout to the two loves of my life: my wonderful friends and coffee)
